How much lawn feed do you need?

Companies will tell you that a bag might cover say 100m2, but realistically you're never going to be able to spread it as evenly as they have to come to that number. We find about 75% of that number is probably more realistic, so a bag that advertises 100m2 might do more like 75m2 in real world application. And if you're like me and drop loads when filling up the spreader, maybe allow a little more...

Working out your coverage

We mentioned above that you want to allow something like 75% of the advertised coverage, but how do you know what your garden is in meters squared? Not many people just know how big their garden is.

One easy way is to load up Google Earth in your browser. Start a new project and zoom in on your house, then select the 'path/polygon' tool and draw out the shape. Once you join it all up, it should tell you the area.

Here's what that might look like. The green box shows the polygon tool you need and the red box will be where the area shows up once you've drawn (and connected up) your polygon. No this is not our garden or our house! It's a random field somewhere :)
